Just 50km away from Antalya there is a historic city perched high up on the Taurus Mountains. Ariassos ancient city watches over the valley. It was once a Pisidian City, belonging to the Seleucid Empire but then afterwards part of the Roman province. Ariassos stands 1050 meters above sea level, keeping most of its rock tombs, baths and city gates seemingly untouched by the passage of time. There are elements for a romantic view. Though the town was founded during the Hellenistic period, most of the ruins at Ariassos are from Roman and Byzantines eras. Asides from the rock tombs spread around the hilly area, the most well-preserved ruin is the third-century triple-arched entrance once surmounted by four statues. Another evident building is the Roman baths and a large nymphaeum.
