It was once a Pisidian City, belonging to the Seleucid Empire but then afterwards part of the Roman province. Ariassos stands 1050 meters above sea level, keeping most of its rock tombs, baths and city gates seemingly untouched by the passage of time. There are elements for a romantic view. The combination of the lush green vegetation that grows here and the bright blue sky giving it wonderful contrast. During the Roman times, Ariassos was known for its wine and olive oil production.
Though the town was founded during the Hellenistic period, most of the ruins at Ariassos are from Roman and Byzantines eras. Asides from the rock tombs spread around the hilly area, the most well-preserved ruin is the third-century triple-arched entrance once surmounted by four statues.
